Health Care Education and Literacy
Getting the health care system to communicate better will be key to fixing what we have today. Currently, millions of dollars are wasted due to miscommunication, confusion, or misunderstanding over who is supposed to do what. T.S. Eliot wrote, "The single biggest problem with communication is the assumption that it is taking place." Very appropriate for what we have in health care today.
Expanding the Health Literacy Idea (Nearly 40% of the population score relatively low in health literacy. Low health literacy costs billions of unecessary dollars each year and many lives. The newsletter discusses the need to expand beyond improving the reading skills of the population- to providing environments to improve the learning of individuals through a variety of different methods.)January, 2012
Adding Context to Health Care Education (Less than 25% of the population say they understand health care. The system is confusing, complex, and talks in a different language. This newsletter discusses the importance of adding "context" to the discussion- how we got here, what we have, where we're going, and what we need to do to get there) October, 2011
Health Care Literacy- We're Confused; (We're trying to fix a system over 75% don't even understand); July, 2010
